Being respected, accepted, valued, able to express ideas comfortably, ask questions, and participate in learning without fear of humiliation, rejection, or unfair treatment are the pre-requisites of a psychologically safe environment and classroom. Since students learn better when they feel secure and supported, psychological safety is an important foundation for effective teaching and learning. Paramount role is played by teachers in creating such classrooms. Their behavior, beliefs, expectations, communication style, and responses to student difficulties strongly influence the classroom climate. At the same time, schools need proactive strategies to prevent bullying in order to promote respectful relationships among students. They should establish a culture that promotes respect, inclusion, empathy, and responsible behavior throughout the year. Students are more likely to participate actively and develop positive attitudes toward school and learning when they know that their dignity and voice matters and that the school community is committed to their learning, dignity, and well-being.
