Professor, Department of Education, IGNOU, New Delhi Shifting Towards Joyful and Engaging Learning Objectives By the end of the Professional Development Programme, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the concept, importance and principles of joyful and engaging learning. 2. Identify factors that promote students’ interest, motivation and active participation in learning. 3. Create a positive, inclusive and learner-friendly classroom environment. 4. Use activity-based, experiential and play-based approaches to make learning enjoyable. 5. Integrate storytelling, games, discussions, projects, art and collaborative activities into classroom teaching. 6. Promote curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving through engaging learning experiences. 7. Use appropriate digital tools and multimedia resources to enhance learner engagement. 8. Design learner-centred activities that address diverse learning needs and interests. 9. Use formative assessment and constructive feedback to sustain student motivation. 10. Reflect on teaching practices and develop strategies for continuous improvement in classroom engagement. Learning Outcomes After completing the PDP, participants will be able to: • Explain the meaning and significance of joyful and engaging learning. • Identify classroom practices that increase student motivation and participation. • Design learner-centred and activity-based learning experiences. • Apply games, storytelling, projects, group work and experiential activities appropriately. • Create a safe and supportive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to participate. • Integrate students’ interests, experiences and local contexts into teaching-learning. • Use technology and multimedia creatively to support engagement. • Encourage collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. • Apply formative assessment strategies that provide meaningful feedback. • Evaluate classroom practices and modify them to make learning more joyful, meaningful and inclusive.
